Törggelen festival in Bressanone

Gastronomic autumn highlight in the Isarco Valley

Törggelen is an ancient tradition with almost certain origins in the Isarco Valley. The term "Törggelen" comes from the word "Torggel" - which indicates the grape press - and most probably initially referred to the tasting of the must before fermentation, an event that over time has become an appointment between friends and neighbours. During a Törggele-evening on the table next to the so called "Nuien" (the new wine) you will find speck, fresh sausages with sauerkraut, a “Schlachtplatte” with "Rippelen" and "Surfleisch", barley soup, canederli, mezzelune and other traditional delicacies… and we can’t forget the chestnuts!

To do during your autumn vacation: an exciting walk through the chestnut groves and vineyards with a visit to a traditional inn or tavern for Törggelen.

Recommended stops:

The typical Aichnerhof inn in San Leonardo near Bressanone. The historic restaurant, whose walls date back to the 13th century, is not only outstanding for its culinary specialties, but also for its architectural and historical elements.

The Trametsch hut in Sant’Andrea. Here you can experience the true tradition of the Törggelen with a dreamlike panorama.
